About MISSION - (revised and adopted April 16, 2009) NELLCO, an international consortium of law libraries, advances justice through access to global legal information. Together NELLCO libraries collaborate to maximize resources and to support the missions of their institutions. NELLCO members share the risks and rewards of implementing innovative ideas, and capitalize on enduring successes.
WHO WE ARE The strength of the organization is our diversity. The majority of our association consists of academic institutions whose primary clientele are faculty, students, and alumni. Other member institutions serve the practicing bar, and are supported by dues from those professions. Still others receive public funding to service the general public, legislative bodies, and judiciaries. STATEMENT OF COOPERATION Given that NELLCO's mission promotes cooperative resource sharing, we pool our strengths to add to and enhance the essential services and vitality of our member organizations. It is imperative that NELLCO members structure cooperative arrangements in ways that do not unfairly diminish any individual institution's ability to maintain a high level of service for primary users. The overriding intent of our alliance is to enhance access to legal information for the mutual benefit of all NELLCO members. MEMBERSHIP Membership in the New England Law Library Consortium includes ABA accredited law schools, private non-profit, or government law libraries located in the United States. There are three levels of membership, Full, Affiliate and International Affiliate. For a current list of members click here. ADMINISTRATION NELLCO is governed by a Board of Directors composed of the directors of all full member libraries. The elected officers of the Consortium are the president, vice-president and treasurer. These officers, along with the immediate past president, form the Executive Committee of NELLCO. The NELLCO Executive Director manages the Consortium activities under the guidance of the Executive Committee. The Committee and Executive Director meet regularly to review the status of NELLCO projects and discuss possible new cooperative programs, meeting plans and grants applications.
